Tree Pests in the Salem Area
Two beetles are killing trees in the Mid-Willamette Valley right now: one in ash, one in birch. Both are easier and cheaper to deal with early.
- Emerald ash borerFound in South Salem in July 2026. Kills ash trees. Marion and Yamhill counties are under state quarantine.
- Bronze birch borerHas been killing white-barked birch across western Oregon for years. The tree dies from the top down.
Why a tree service is talking about bugs
Because we are the ones who get called when the tree is already dead. By then the only option is removal, and dead trees are harder and riskier to take down. If you catch either of these early, you have choices.
Our arborists are ISA Certified. If you have an ash or a birch and something looks off, call (503) 551-5141 or text us a photo. If the tree needs a written assessment, we do arborist reports as well.
