Tree Service in Salem, Oregon

Salem is where most of our customers are, and where most of the big jobs are: tall firs beside the house, old Oregon white oaks, and the limbs that come down every winter.

Oregon Woodsmen bucket truck removing a pine in a residential neighborhood

The short version: Salem is our main market. We remove and prune the big firs and oaks near houses, write the arborist reports the city asks for on significant trees, and clean up after storms. Estimates are free. Call or text (503) 551-5141.

Tree work in Salem

We work in every part of the city: South Salem, West Salem, the older neighborhoods near Bush’s Pasture Park and the Capitol, and out toward Four Corners and Keizer. Our yard is in Rickreall, a short drive west on Highway 22, so West Salem is the closest part of the city to us.

Salem is an oak town. Oregon white oaks that were here before the houses still stand in a lot of back yards, and the city protects the big ones. Inside city limits, an Oregon white oak 20 inches or more in diameter, and most other trees 30 inches or more, counts as a significant tree and needs a permit before it is removed. If the city asks for an arborist’s opinion, we can write the arborist report.

Anyone who was here for the ice storm in February 2021 knows what a heavy coat of ice does to those same trees. A lot of the storm work we still see is damage from that week that was never properly cleaned up: torn limbs, broken tops and trees that have been leaning since.

Emerald ash borer is now in Salem

In July 2026 the city found emerald ash borer in a trap near West Fork Pringle Creek in South Salem. Marion County is inside the state quarantine, which means ash wood cannot leave the quarantined counties. If you have an ash tree, now is the time to have it looked at.

What do Salem homeowners call us about most?

Three things. Big conifers close to the house: Douglas fir, western red cedar and the occasional sequoia that was a cute little tree in 1975. Oaks with dead wood over a roof or driveway. And ornamentals that have outgrown their corner of the yard, like birch, flowering plum, maple and arborvitae hedges.

Fall is when most people call. Leaves come off, the dead limbs show, and nobody wants them overhead when the first windstorm arrives in November. If you want work done before winter, September and October are the months to get on the schedule.

Why hire a certified arborist in Salem?

Because Salem regulates its biggest trees, and because a wrong cut on a 150 year old oak cannot be undone. Our arborists are ISA Certified, with the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. The bid you get comes from someone who can tell you whether the tree is actually dangerous, what the city will ask for and whether pruning would solve the problem for less.

Tree service questions from Salem

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Salem?

If it is a significant tree, a street tree or near a stream, probably yes. Significant means an Oregon white oak 20 inches or more in diameter or most other trees 30 inches or more. Check the City of Salem tree regulations, or ask us when we come out for the estimate.

Do you work in West Salem?

All the time. West Salem is the closest part of the city to our yard in Rickreall.

How fast can you get to Salem for storm damage?

Call (503) 551-5141. During a storm we take the dangerous situations first: trees on houses, blocked driveways and hanging limbs.
