Tree Service in Independence, Oregon
Independence sits on the Willamette, and river towns grow big trees. We trim them, remove them and clean up after them.

The short version: In Independence the big jobs are river trees: cottonwood, willow and maple that grow fast and break easily. We reduce them, remove them and clean up after them. Estimates are free. Call or text (503) 551-5141.
Tree work in Independence
Close to the river the soil is deep and wet, and trees grow fast. Cottonwood, maple, willow and ash do well here, and fast growing trees are the ones that shed limbs. In the historic downtown neighborhoods the trees are old and the lots are small, so a removal usually means taking the tree apart from the top and lowering it in pieces.
The newer subdivisions on the south and west sides have the opposite problem: young trees planted close to houses and fences that need early pruning to grow into a good shape. It is a small job now and a big one if it waits fifteen years.
Oregon ash grows wild along the Willamette and its sloughs. Emerald ash borer has been confirmed across the river in Marion County. Polk County is not in the quarantine as of this writing, but it is close enough that ash trees here are worth watching.
What should Independence homeowners know about river trees?
Black cottonwood can put on several feet a year and reach enormous size, but the wood is weak and large limbs break without much warning, especially in summer heat and winter wind. Willows and bigleaf maples near the water have similar habits. If one of these stands over a house, shop or parking area, regular inspection and weight reduction is worth the money.
High water also matters. Trees along the sloughs can have their roots undercut, and a tree that looks fine in August may be leaning by February.

What we do in Independence
Tree service questions from Independence
Do you remove cottonwoods?
Yes. Cottonwoods get large and brittle, and we take them down in sections when they are near buildings.
Should I be worried about my ash tree?
Keep an eye on it. Emerald ash borer is in Marion County, just across the river. Thinning at the top and small D-shaped holes in the bark are the signs. We can take a look.
Do you serve both Independence and Monmouth?
Yes, usually on the same trip.
